Dear Friends,
This month there will be a number of conversations around Clover Hill about Communications and I hope you will be a part of the process. Here are some of the places and ways the conversations will occur:
- On Saturday October 6 we will be involved in our Pig Roast. This day has evolved from a mere fundraiser into a Church-Wide event that brings us together. From the pre-dawn hours when the fires are started, through the morning and afternoon of preparation, into the meal itself and then the clean-up and set up for the next day’s worship and Church School there is plenty of room for us to be involved. But these are not simply jobs to be done, they are opportunities for people to work with, talk to and learn about each other in ways that result in deeper relationships. These relationships become the foundation for blessings shared in the future. It is important for our Building Fund that we hold fundraisers, but it is even more important for our identity as a Church that we have these experiences of time shared and community developed. If you haven’t signed up yet, please call the Church Office today!
- On Sunday October 7 we will celebrate World Wide Communion Sunday as Christians of all lands gather at table for the Sacrament. In recent years we have invited the children of the Church School to rejoin their parents for Communion, confident that you who are parents understand your child’s spiritual maturity and readiness for the sacrament better than we ever can. Whether they partake or not, it is good for them to see the celebration that unites all of us to Christ and each other.
- On Wednesday October 10 the Consistory, with input from our Communications Team, will spend time discussing how we Communicate with you and with the world, we will look at the traditional means of Sunday Bulletin, Belltower and periodic letters as well as our current efforts and future possibilities in the world of email and our website.
- On Sunday October 28 we will be honoring those of you who joined with God’s people in Clover Hill in the years that end with “7” or “2”, letters of initiation will be sent for this special worship service and I hope that all of you will be with us to give thanks to God for our companions in faith.
- Even as we work on the local level to communicate better, our denomination, the RCA, is doing the same thing., albeit in reverse. Last June it was decided that our magazine, The Church Herald, will no longer be provided to each household. You should be receiving individual subscription information and I would encourage you to continue to learn of what the RCA is doing beyond Clover Hill.
Communication, Communion and Community, they are all formed of the same root, all pieces of the same sacred puzzle of what it means to be a Church, a people of the Word that became Flesh and dwelt among us.
Shalom,
Jack
