May Letter
Dear Friends,
I want to tell you about May, but I can’t let go of this past weekend, April 24-26. In my weekly email announcements (if would like to join the more than 120 people who receive the prayer list early each week and the announcements, including the surprisingly popular “quote of the week”, near the end of the week, send me an email at CHRCJACK@GMAIL.COM) I anticipated the weekend with these words:

This weekend we are Clover Hill: On Friday evening twenty-some of our young people and their advisors leave for a weekend at Camp Warwick . . . for a spirit filled, growth experience. On Saturday we will give thanks to God as we honor the life of Chester Wozniak in worship.   On Sunday morning our Church School children will be preparing special gifts for next Sunday’s kickoff to our 175th Anniversary Celebration! On Sunday morning our worship will celebrate the baptism of Mason Oduvald Ughetta, Steve and Jen’s son, and we will thank God and Velma Gene Samson for her years of service as our Director of Music (see the Resolution in this issue of the Belltower). On Sunday evening Trish Stabler and Bob Valinski will be honored for their service, on our behalf, to Camp Warwick at a Dinner celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Warwick! Read those over, slowly, and recognize the diversity and holiness of our life as a people of God in this place.

Well, we did it! And, as high as my expectations for the weekend were, we exceeded them! It is possible that there has been a more remarkable weekend in the history of our congregation, but I’ve never experienced or heard of one.

What a great prelude for this Month of May when we will begin our 175th Anniversary on Confirmation Sunday, May 3, as we celebrate the faith of our teens and launch our 175 Days of Faith!

This issue of the Belltower will point you toward: how to give the money, talent and time that we urgently need for our Workday at Warwick on May 9; how to get tickets for the Youth Group Pancake Breakfast on May 17; how to schedule your “sitting” on May 19/20 for our Pictorial Directory. . . how to be Clover Hill!

The opportunities abound, in May and all year long, for people who will follow in the footsteps of Chet Wozniak, who I described on Saturday as “the first to offer help, the last to demand credit or expect praise”. As Charles Dickens once wrote: “May that be truly said of us, and all of us!”

Peace,

Jack
